1954 Wyandotte No.220 American Airways Passenger Plane in Original Box

1954 Wyandotte No.220 American Airways Passenger Plane in Original Box

This spectacular kaleidoscopic pressed steel airplane comes fresh from its original owner. Manufactured by Wyandotte as one of their last airplane toys it features twin, coiled spring driven whirling propellers. Comes complete with fantastic original illustrated box.

Heavy gauge pressed steel construction features one of the most beautiful lithographed designs on any toy plane I've seen. It's marked "American Airways" on the fuselage and "A-A", "NC220" on the wings.

Overall brilliant sunshine yellow with azure blue under-wings. It's striped with dark red "speed lines" on the fuselage and red, white, and blue highlights on the embossed wings. The props were both painted yellow and the windows cross-hatched in blue and white. The propellers rotate as the coil spring connected to them twists and turns. The three tires are solid rubber.

The box graphics show the busy American Airways plane just as it takes off. Silhouettes of disembarking passengers are shown below. "American" was handsomely printed in large bold, capital letters across the top edge. The side panels include the toy' name alongside the manufacturer's name and address.

Size: 10" fuselage, 12½" wingspan.
